Rick is a commercial lawyer with extensive experience in representing secured lenders, including multi-bank and participated loans and transactions with more than one level of debt. He has also represented lenders in complex troubled debt restructuring, loan workouts, and bankruptcies. Prior to joining the firm, Rick was a senior partner at Preti, Flaherty, Beliveau & Pachios in Portland, before opening his own firm in the spring of 1996.
Rick represents many of the major commercial financial institutions in Maine, including TD Bank N.A., Camden National Bank, United Kingfield Bank, Machias Savings Bank, Gorham Savings Bank and The First, N.A. He also represents a number of major banks and insurance companies outside Maine with respect to loans and other financial transactions within the state.
He counsels developers and investment banking concerns in the development of commercial projects, securing all necessary approvals at the local, state, regional, and federal levels; equity financing, including syndications of limited partnership interests for low-income housing and commercial development; private placements of securities for leveraged buyouts and acquisitions; and working capital funding. Major projects include the permitting, development, construction, lease-up, and permanent financing of a $25 million office complex in Portland. He served as legal counsel in the acquisition of an American Hockey League franchise, the syndication of limited partnership interests to raise the necessary equity for the owner, and the negotiations for the leasing of the Cumberland County Civic Center.
He lives on the greens of the Woodlands Golf Course, where he and his wife spend many hours enjoying their love of golf.
