Nick concentrates his practice in the area of environmental and energy law, with a focus on municipal solid waste and hazardous materials. Prior to joining the firm, Nick served as Assistant Corporation Counsel for the District of Columbia and as Trial Attorney in the Lands and Natural Resources Division of the US Department of Justice. Nick represents the only publicly owned and operated waste-to-energy facilities in the State of Maine. In addition, Nick has represented numerous public and private schools throughout the State.
Nick is admitted to practice in both the District of Columbia and the State of Maine and has been a speaker and panel moderator at a number of programs presented by the Maine State Bar Association, Maine Department of Environmental Protection, Maine School Management Association and other organizations.
Nick has served on the Board of Directors of Shalom House, the Portland City Council’s Merrill Auditorium Advisory Committee, and the Board of PCA Great Performances which he chaired for two years. He formerly served, by appointment of the Governor, on the School Board of the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf and the Governor’s Task Force on the Maine School for Visual and Performing Arts. Nick was also a Trustee of the Portland Public Library for eight years and held two 3-year elected terms on the Portland School Committee during which time he served two years as Chair.
Nick and his wife Elaine have a home in Portland where they are fortunate to live close to 2 of their 3 children and 2 of their 4 grandchildren.
