Anna P. Clark

AREAS OF EXPERTISE:

Anna Polko Clark is a member of the firm’s Business Services practice group.  She represents clients through the formation process for both for profit and nonprofit entities ensuring a company is properly established and well situated to quickly commence business activities.  After creation, Anna assists active companies with a wide array of issues such as contract preparation, real estate transactions, and intellectual property matters ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations and supporting growth.  Anna particularly enjoys representing clients in corporate purchase and sale transactions and represents both buyers and sellers.

With a substantial background in litigation and estate planning, Anna brings a unique perspective to her practice and considers the whole picture for not only the business, but the people behind the business.  Her litigation experience informs her corporate practice as she is better able to identify—and help clients avoid—potential areas of future conflict and develop and employ effective succession planning strategies.  These issues are particularly important for family businesses and entities formed to preserve beloved family real estate in Maine for future generations.

“Perhaps the most enjoyable part of my practice is building lasting relationships with my corporate clients that span years.  Meeting a company’s owners during formation, then assisting that business over time in the development of practical but creative solutions to unique and challenging issues to help businesses grow and realize goals, makes for a rewarding and exciting profession.”

Before joining Jensen Baird, Anna was a partner in another Portland-based law firm.  Prior to that, she practiced in a smaller York County firm.  After law school, Anna spent a year clerking for the Honorable Jeffrey L. Hjelm of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.  As a law student, Anna served as the Production Editor of the Maine Law Review and worked as a student attorney at the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic for a full year and, upon graduation, was the recipient of the Clinic’s Outstanding Clinical Student Award.  Additionally, she was an intern at the United States Attorney’s Office and an extern for the District Court.

Anna lives in South Portland with her husband and three children and enjoys gardening, cooking, and exploring Maine with family and friends.
