Anna P. Clark

AREAS OF EXPERTISE:

Anna Polko Clark is a member of the firm’s Probate Litigation, Trusts and Estates, and Litigation practice groups.  Anna’s practice centers on proceedings in Maine’s Probate and Superior Courts and includes will contests, breach of fiduciary duty matters, undue influence and improvident transfer cases, accounting disputes, termination and/or modification of trusts cases, estate and trust administration, guardianship and conservatorship proceedings, and partition actions.  Anna also advises clients with respect to estate planning including will preparation, powers of attorney, advance health care directives, and trusts, to ensure their wishes are clearly reflected with the goal of preserving family bonds and avoiding future conflict.  Anna’s probate litigation experience informs her estate planning practice making her a more careful planner.

“Probate litigation often occurs during what is already a difficult time for a family.  It is important to have a caring and thoughtful approach in these cases while also developing efficient and favorable solutions to the problems facing clients. Deescalating conflict as much as possible while also preparing to go the distance is essential in these matters.  My process with all my clients is to listen, hear their goals, and find the best way to achieve those goals.”

Before joining Jensen Baird, Anna was a partner in the litigation department of another Portland-based law firm and prior to that, practiced in a smaller York County firm.  After law school, Anna spent a year clerking for the Honorable Jeffrey L. Hjelm of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.  As a law student, Anna served as the Production Editor of the Maine Law Review and worked as student attorney at the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic for a full year and, upon graduation, was the recipient of the Clinic’s Outstanding Clinical Student Award.  Additionally, she was an intern at the United States Attorney’s Office and an extern for a District Court Judge.

Anna lives in South Portland with her husband and three children and enjoys exploring their community and spending time with friends and family.
